While Motorola is known for rolling out quick Android OS updates for their devices, they have managed to create a very bad reputation for themselves when it comes to updating them with monthly security updates. Thus, yesterday, a rumor originated that the Moto Z and Moto Z Force would not receive regular security patches from the company.
Considering that the company only recently managed to roll out the May security patch for the Moto X Pure Edition, this move would not have been surprising. Plus, the phones will be available under Verizon’s network, and the carrier is notorious for its slow software update roll out times. However, Motorola has now issued a statement to clarify that it plans on updating the Moto Z and Moto Z Force with security updates.
Moto Z and Moto Z Force will be supported with patches from Android Security Bulletins. They will receive an update shortly after launch with additional patches.
It also clarified that while phones shipped to reviewer ran the May security patch, it will be rolling out a software update soon after the phone’s launch on July 28 to bump the security patch level to July along with other bugfixes and improvements.
It is good to see Motorola confirm that it does plan on rolling out security patches to the Moto Z and Moto Z Force. However, the company’s statement does not clarify if it will be updating the handsets every month or not, which is something that only time will tell.
