If you’re planning to purchase a 2014 Moto X through Moto Maker anytime soon, there’s now a gorgeous red leather option available. It’s darker and richer than the existing cognac option, and it costs exactly the same as other leather models.
That’s a $25 premium over the plastic options, and it takes the price of the Moto X up to $424.99 if you’re buying a 32GB model (off-contract), or $474.99 if you’re buying a 64GB model. But in my opinion, that premium is well worth it.
While many prefer the wooden finishes, I think the leather Moto X backings look much better over time. Like a leather wallet, they seem to look better with age — once they’ve picked up a few scratches and scuffs and had a chance to mature.
Unlike the football leather, which is available to Verizon customers only, the red leather is available to Moto X handsets purchased on any carrier in the U.S. — as well as those purchased off-contract in the U.K.
