Google’s Project Fi network took to Twitter recently to confirm that the network will host a “mid-tier price” phone at some point this year.
Unfortunately they weren’t in a position to reveal anything more about the upcoming handset, so many were left guessing. But thanks to VentureBeat, that handset may have been revealed. The name, anyway. The publication reports that Project Fi will launch the Moto X4 sometime in the fourth quarter of 2017. What date it will become available or how much it will cost remains unknown.
What also remains a mystery is what the Moto X4 will bring to the market when, or if, it launches. A previous leak has pointed to a phone with a 5.2-inch FHD display, a “SmartCam,” and 3D Glass, but other than that the details are still missing. With a rumored fourth quarter launch, though, the rumor mill will probably completely out the handset in the near future, before Motorola can get around to announcing it, anyway.
If the Moto X4 is real and it does launch on Project Fi, it will be the first non-Pixel and non-Nexus handset to be offered by the MVNO, so that’s worth noting all by itself. And surely suggests even more devices could be added to the carrier’s lineup in the future.
