Disappointed by the Moto Z2 Force — Moto’s  flagship handset for 2017? Well, Moto plans on reviving its X series this year with the Moto X4. Bringing the line back from the dead after almost two years, the Moto X4 will have a lot riding on its shoulders when it is released later this year. 

While Moto has not provided any details about the handset, its press renders and complete specifications have been leaked online. The leak reveals that the Moto X4 will feature a 5.2-inch Full HD display which will be protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass. The 7.99mm thick handset will weigh in at 163g and feature a fingerprint scanner at the front.

The Moto X4 follows a different design language than Moto’s existing Moto Z lineup of handsets and also lack support for Moto Mods. It will also be Moto’s first device to feature IP68 certification thereby making it dust and water-resistant. Powering the Moto X4 will be Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 630 chipset and an Adreno 508 GPU. This will be paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage in Europe, North America, and Latin America, while in the APAC region, the handset will come with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.

The rear of the Moto X4 features a dual camera setup, with a primary 12MP shooter featuring a f/2.0 aperture, 1/4um large pixel, and Dual Pixel AF. This is paired with a secondary 8MP shooter with a f/2.2 aperture, a 120-degree field of view, and 1.12um large pixel. This dual-camera setup is paired with dual-LED flash. Like with other dual-camera setups in the market, the one on the Moto X4 will allow it to sense depth thereby allowing to offer a bokeh mode.

The Moto X4 will be powered by a 3000mAh battery and support TurboCharging.

From the specs, it is evident that the Moto X4 is not going to be the company’s flagship handset for 2017. Nonetheless, considering how disappointing the Moto Z2 Force has turned out to be, it is possible that the Moto X4 turns out to be a winner if Motorola plays its cards right and gets the handset’s pricing just right.
