Motorola struck a nerve with critics and consumers with the Moto X, which launched late in 2013. With its well-designed frame and worthwhile specifications, the device was bolstered by a level of consumer customization never before seen. While it was hindered at first by a price tag many considered to be too high, Motorola made sure to keep the device in the public’s eye with plenty of deals and price cuts throughout 2013, and leading well into 2014. But as we inch inexorably closer to August, talk of the Moto X’s successor has begun to heat up.

We’ve heard about some of the new features the Moto X+1 will boast, including a slightly larger display this time around, probably around 5-inches, while also upgrading to a full 1080p HD panel, up from the 720p display of the previous generation. Other than that, the spec details regarding the upcoming device have been somewhat quiet. Moreover, the only image we’ve reportedly seen of the upcoming handset has been a device clad in a development casing, and it didn’t really provide a clear image of what we should expect to buy later this year.

That’s reportedly changed with a leaked image of the Moto X+1, courtesy of TK Tech News Blog. The image, which you can see just above, is slightly blurry, and does indeed share a distinct resemblance to the original Moto X, but that would fit with the rumors that the Moto X+1 will look quite similar to the original handset. The source that provided the image also went on to say that the Moto X+1 will have 2GB of RAM, come in variations of 16GB, 32GB or 64GB options, while also providing a microSD card slot for extra storage when you need it. The source also mentioned that there are currently two camera systems being tested with the Moto X+1, and apparently Motorola hasn’t made a decision just yet.

As far as a release date goes? The source suggests that Motorola is aiming for a late August launch party, but depending on the camera they choose, it could be pushed back to early September. Of course, if Motorola does wait until September, that would put it directly in competition (especially for the news cycle) with Apple’s upcoming iPhone, and Samsung’s rumored launch of the Galaxy F. That would certainly be a bold move on Motorola’s part, but one many probably believe they’ll try to avoid.
