After numerous leaks, Motorola and Google have gone ahead and officially unveiled the most hyped smartphone of 2013 – the Moto X – at an event in the US of A. Sadly, there really is not much to know about the Moto X, apart from what has already leaked or what we have not already seen at the Droid Ultra unveiling from Verizon.

The Moto X packs in a 4.7-inch AMOLED display with RGB pixel arrangement and 720p resolution. Internally, the X is powered by a X8 “mobile computing system” from Motorola that consists of a dual-core Krait 300 cores clocked at 1.7GHz, a quad-core Adreno 320 GPU, and a dedicated processor each to handle voice recognition and the tons of dedicated sensors.

Other specs include 16GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, NFC, GPS, Miracast and numerous sensors. On the camera side, there is a 10MP ‘Clear Pixel’ camera aided by an LED flash, and a 2MP snapper in the front. It comes with a 2,200mAh battery that Motorola claims offers up to 24 hours of battery life.

Moto X will be running on a near stock Android 4.2.2 out of the box, with very minor modifications. All the software goodies that we saw on the Verizon’s new Droid series will be present on the Moto X including touch less control, Active Display and new gestures to activate the camera.

It also comes with a “Quick Capture” camera functionality that will allow users to launch the camera app with a wrist flick, and take a photo by touching anywhere on the screen.

The killer feature of the Moto X, however, are its customisation options. Using Moto Maker website, potential AT&T Moto X customers can customize the handset ot their liking. This includes multiple cases, colors (up to 18), back or white faceplate, and the option to add custom text to the rear of the device. The website is expected to go live sometime later this summer. Motorola will also make the design social, and allow users to vote for which customization option they want on the Moto X using a Facebook poll. Several wooden backings will also be available for the Moto X on AT&T sometime in Q4 of this year.

The Moto X will be available from the end of August on all the major carriers including T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint, US Cellular and Verizon. The 16GB version will cost $199 on a two-year contract, with an AT&T exclusive 32GB variant costing $249.
