Google today quietly added a Google Play Edition Moto G to the Play Store, that runs an unmodified build of Android 4.4 KitKat, with the same specs as the original Moto G.
The device comes in 8GB and 16GB variants, with the same 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 Quad Code CPU, a 5MP camera, a 2070 mAh battery and a 4.5-inch 1280 x 720 display. The Moto G doesn’t have 4G capabilities, and is US only for now, with support for both, AT&T and T-Mobile’s network.
The Play Edition Moto G is priced the same as the original — $179 for the 8GB variant, and $199 for the 16GB variant, unlocked and without contract.
While stock Android has its advantages of quick software updates, no carrier/manufacturer bloatware, there are some features that will be missing from the Play Edition Moto G. Here’s a list of these features, as noted by Google (via AnandTech):
- FM Radio
- Motorola Assist
- Motorola Boot Services
- Motorola Camera
- Moto Care/Help
- Motorola Connect
- Motorola Device ID
You can buy the Play Edition Moto G from the Google Play Store. The device is in stock and ships in 1-2 business days.
