Microsoft has updated the Preview version of its Word, Excel and PowerPoint apps on the Google Play Store today to add support for Android smartphones.

The company had initially released its office suite of apps on the Play Store in late January this year, but for only selected Android tablets.

Reflow documents in Word to make them easier to read and navigate.

Access your documents quickly—Create, open, edit and save files in the cloud from your Android phone so you can access them anywhere and anytime you need them. OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, SharePoint, Dropbox, Google Drive and Box and are all available to you.

Work together—Share ideas, insights and presentations with others right from your phone. It’s easy to track changes, comment and markup documents so everybody knows the thinking behind the edits. Share your documents with others by simply emailing a hyperlink or attachment.

Since the smartphone versions of the app are in a preview, they can only be downloaded by users after they join this beta community and then join individually join the Word, Excel and PowerPoint beta testing program from here, here and here, respectively.

The updated version also adds support for word count and proofing support in 18 languages on Android tablets as well as smartphones.

Since the apps are still in preview, users are bound to run into some issues and bugs while using them. Microsoft recommends devices running Android 4.4 KitKat or higher and having at least 1GB+ RAM for the apps to work properly. A list of incompatible devices can be found here.
