Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 feature has become a must-have feature in high-end Android devices now. The technology allows devices like the Nexus 6 and Moto X to last for up to 8 hours after being charged for only 15 mins.
All major flagship handsets released this year, including the Samsung Galaxy S6, LG G3 and HTC One M9 support Quick Charge 2.0 (or Fast Charging on Samsung devices).
MediaTek, which has emerged as a great alternative chipset maker for OEMs in the low-end market, has now launched its own quick charging technology known as ‘Pump Express Plus’, which reduces the charging time by 45% compared to traditional chargers.
As of now, this technology is supported by MediaTek’s MT6595, the company’s high-end chipset found inside the HTC One M9+, and its lower-end MT6732 chipset. Chipset side support is only one side of the story though. Devices being powered by these chipsets must be charged by MediaTek’s HF-QC-084 charger that is compatible with the company’s ‘Pump Express Plus’ technology. This charger is capable of outputting up to 15.03W of power at 9V.
It is unclear whether existing devices that already ship with compatible chipsets are supported my MediaTek’s ‘Pump Express Plus’ technology or not.
