OnePlus today released the first community build of OxygenOS 3.1.0 based on Marshmallow for the OnePlus X. Since this is a community build, it will not be rolled out to OnePlus X owners out there.

Instead, interested OnePlus X users will have to manually flash the ROM on their handset.

Since the ROM is based on Marshmallow, it brings with it numerous goodies and features. This includes Now on Tap, new system apps like OnePlus Music Player and Gallery, performance and battery life improvements, and more.

A quick change-log of the update as provided by OnePlus is as follows:

  • Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

  • Launcher upgrades

    • New icon packs
    • Google search bar UI customization
    • New wallpaper picker
  • Shelf UX improvements

    • Long press boards to rearrange or remove
  • General system performance improvement

  • Settings changes

    • New (native Android) app permissions
    • New Alert Slider settings with more customization options
  • New apps

    • OnePlus Music Player
    • OnePlus Gallery
  • August 1 security patches for Android

Being a community build, there are some issues that you should be aware of as well. OnePlus notes that you will likely run into some compatibility issues with some third-party apps and mobile network stability will also be hampered in some regions. If these issues are not a deal breaker for you, go ahead and install the OxygenOS 3.1.0 update on your OnePlus X right away.

You can dirty flash the build over your current installation of OxygenOS, but if you are using a custom recovery or any other ROM, you will have to format the phone first. And if your phone has some important data, it is recommended that you create a backup just to be on the safe side.
