LG’s current flagship phone, the G2, is also known by the model name LG D802. The newer Nexus 5, which can be called G2 variant, is the LG D820 or D821 depending on the region. A new LG device known simply as the D830 has been discovered by the team at PhoneArena, and while they don’t have a complete rundown of the specs, nor do they have images of the device, they think it’s the new G3.
An anonymous tipster sent them a user agent profile for the D830, and it’ll supposedly be able to playback 4K content. This is a feature that’s been in Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 for a while now, but few phones actually take advantage of it. The D830 will also be able to record 720p video at 120 frames per second to enable slow motion capture, similar to the iPhone 5s.
Where things get really interesting, however, is the D830’s appearance in the HTML5test database. The D830 supposedly scores 503 points in the test out of a possible 555 points. My Moto G running Android 4.3 only scores 484 points. My MacBook Pro on the other hand, it scores 503 points, so we’re potentially looking at a huge upgrade to Chrome’s Blink rendering agent coming down the pipeline.
When will LG likely announce the G3? Before this leak, I would have said summer 2014. But now I’m not so sure. Everyone knows Samsung is going to unveil the GS5 during at some point in the next 90 days, so maybe LG is trying to do the same.
