The Optimus G, when it was announced during the fall of 2012, quickly fell off people’s radar. And for good reason too. You have to remember, that was the month Samsung announced the Galaxy Note II. And even worse, Google just a few short weeks later, announced the Nexus 4. Combine that with LG’s poor track record of software updates, and it was a smartphone that history simply forgot. Until today, that is, because LG Estonia has just announced the Android 4.4 update for the Optimus G is rolling out.

To give you an idea of how significant this is, note that the only non-Nexus devices that are currently running Android 4.4 are Motorola’s Moto X and the HTC One. That means this is the first time that LG has managed to out update nearly everyone else.

Does this update mark the beginning of a trend? I hope so, because then that would make a lot of people take LG seriously. But I have to wonder, why launch the update in Estonia of all places, a country of less than 1.4 million people? And why launch 4.4 KitKat on a year old phone instead of the flagship G2?

I’m curious, does this new update make you want to buy a LG phone or at least consider LG in the future? In less than 100 days, we’re likely going to see new flagship phones from Samsung, Sony, HTC, and LG themselves. Are you actually going to give them some attention this time?
