During the announcement for Android Auto, and while Google was going through the details and partners, LG’s brand appeared for just a moment on a passing slide. It led many people down the same path: LG would, at some point, support Android Auto, even if we were missing details at the moment. LG has finally made it official.
LG, on June 30, has officially announced their support for Android Auto moving forward, as they have joined the Open Automotive Alliance. LG has some broad plans for 2015, the year that will see the first introduction of the accessories that LG releases supporting Android Auto. The company plans on releasing a wide range of products, including items in the navigation market, as well as audio and visual tools for good measure.
LG may not be a huge name in the United States (yet, but with devices like the G3 incoming, that’s certainly starting to change), but they’re popular all around the world, so it’s good to see LG jumping on board with the OAA. Android Auto already has some big supporters, but it’s pretty clear we’re going to continue to see announcements for the automotive-tuned platform moving forward.
