Rumors have been floating around that LG will soon be releasing a new Nexus tablet carrying the model number V510. Even @evleaks recently confirmed that the LG V510 appears to a be Nexus device from Google. Sadly, an error from LG’s side has confirmed that the V510 is not an upcoming Nexus tablet from Google.
Instead, the V510 is the Google Play edition variant of the LG G Pad 8.3 as confirmed by the prematurely made available source code of the tablet over at LG’s OpenSource code distribution website.
While the LG G Pad 8.3 is no Nexus 10, it packs in some impressive specs. This includes an 8.3-inch full HD IPS display, a Snapdragon S600 processor clocked at 1.7GHz, 2GB of RAM, 16GB internal storage, microSD card slot and an IR blaster.
Google started the Google Play edition programme earlier this year, allowing users to experience stock Android on high-end hardware from other OEMs. Now, it looks like Google is extending this programme to Android tablets as well with the LG V510 being the first in the series.
The source code of the tablet confirms that it will be launched with Android 4.4 KitKat on-board, whenever it is made official.
It will be interesting to see if the LG V510 receives the same response from the Android community as the GPe editions of the Galaxy S4 and HTC One had received.
