LG Electronics announced its 2025 lineup of Gram laptops that can run artificial intelligence (AI) features without an internet connection, with the 16-inch Gram Pro becoming the company’s first Copilot+ certified PC.

The new series includes premium Pro models, a versatile 2-in-1, and an entry-level Gram Book targeting U.S. market expansion. The company revealed the latest models on December 31, ahead of their January showcase at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025.

New AI features make computing smarter

The new Gram laptops use two types of AI systems. The first works directly on the laptop using LG’s small language model, which helps users find their files and manage their devices without needing the internet. The second system, powered by GPT-4o, connects to the cloud for more complex tasks like managing emails and calendars.

“2025 LG gram products, featuring advanced gram AI, are powerful, portable productivity companions that can understand users’ needs, intelligently utilize relevant information, and enhance workflow,” said YS Lee, vice president and head of LG’s IT Business Unit.

The company built its offline AI system using a smaller version of its EXAONE language model. The on-device AI ensures that sensitive tasks can be performed without an internet connection.

Both the offline and cloud AI features come with the “Time Travel” tool. This tool can help users quickly revisit their recent files, websites, and documents. The cloud service will be free for the first year, though LG hasn’t announced pricing for continued use.

Four new models target different users

The flagship 16-inch Gram Pro leads the lineup as LG’s first Copilot+ PC. At just 2.73 pounds and 0.49 inches thick, it runs on Intel’s Lunar Lake processor with Intel Arc graphics.

The 17-inch Gram Pro pairs Intel’s Arrow Lake processor with an NVIDIA RTX 4050 graphics card. Despite its larger screen, it maintains a relatively light weight of 3.26 pounds. A 90Wh battery powers the device, the largest in the lineup.

The Pro 2-in-1 model offers unique flexibility with its convertible tablet/laptop design. It includes a wirelessly chargeable stylus and two display options (OLED and LCD).

For budget-conscious buyers, LG is introducing the Gram Book to the U.S. market. This entry-level laptop includes basic AI features while keeping the slim design that Gram laptops are known for. The 15.6-inch laptop uses an Intel® Core™ i5 processor and up to 16GB of RAM, though it’s slightly heavier at 3.74 pounds.

Memory configurations reach up to 32GB RAM for Pro models, with storage options up to 2TB. The laptops also feature LG’s updated Gram Link 2.0, allowing seamless file sharing between Windows PCs and mobile devices.

A competitive edge

LG ambitions to carve a distinct niche in the AI laptop market by offering a balanced mix of privacy, productivity, and performance. With features tailored to both enterprise and individual users, these laptops pose competition against industry leaders like Apple and Microsoft.

Pricing and availability details are expected to be revealed during CES 2025, but LG’s announcement has already set high expectations for what the future of portable computing might hold.
