LG G4

A report from a Korean website claims that sales of LG G4 have been disappointing in the country. The G4 has been available in the South Korean market for three months now, and LG has only managed to ship 240,000 units of the handset during this period.

While this figure is nothing to scoff at, it is lower than LG’s and industry expectations. For comparison, LG’s chief competitor and another South Korean OEM — Samsung — managed to ship 1.3 million units of the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge within the first three months of the phone being available in the market.

The poor sales of the G4 in LG’s home country has led to a very serious situation inside the company. Analysts think that the lack of the G4 in South Korea is because of the heavy subsidy being removed by operators and governments there. This has led to a sharp increase in the prices of the phone in the market, which is why consumers are now wary of buying them.

The LG G4 can definitely stand its own against the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, thanks largely due to its beautiful 5.5-inch Quad HD Quantum IPS display, a 16MP F/1.8 aperture camera, and the presence of a removable battery and microSD card slot. Nonetheless, it looks like these features are not enough from LG to entice consumers to buy the G4 over its competition.

The lacklustre sales of the G4 and its other models indicates that LG will likely be missing its target of shipping 70 million phones this year.

LG has already confirmed that it will be unveiling a premium high-end flagship, which will sit a level above the G4, later this year.
