LG is one of the few OEMs that ships its devices with a locked down bootloader and does not offer any official bootloader unlocking tool as well. While the company had initially promised to release a bootloader unlocking tool for the G3, it decided against it later for some reason.

Thanks to a locked down bootloader, third-party development for LG’s latest flagship has been severely crippled. That changes today though, as Team Codefire has managed to find a way to unlock the bootloader of all variants of the LG G3.

Dubbed ‘Bump!’, the method requires G3 owners to already have root access on their handset. Bump also requires all boot images and custom ROMs to be “Bump’d” before it can be flashed on a G3 whose bootloader has been unlocked. Thankfully, this is up to the custom ROM developers to implement — which should not take a long time.

Bump will work on all the variants of the G3 including carrier variants from AT&T and Verizon without a hitch — just make sure you download the right version of the script for your variant of the device.
