LG has confirmed that the G Watch R will get a maintenance update in Q3, 2015 that will add Wi-Fi support to it.

Google added Wi-Fi support to Android Wear and some of the existing Android Wear smartwatches like LG Watch Urbane, Moto 360 and Sony SmartWatch 3 with the recently released Wear 5.1 update. The G Watch R was missing from this list despite the smartwatch having the same specs as the Watch Urbane, which angered many existing owners of the watch.
