The G Pro, LG’s first attempt at a high-end phablet, wasn’t even remotely what you’d call a successful smartphone. But as is the natural order of things, manufacturers never stop trying, and LG has been rumored to be working on the G Pro 2, a handset that will reportedly be announced at Mobile World Congress (MWC) next month and will feature a 5.9-inch display of 2K (2,560×1,440) resolution.

Today, more details on the handset have been leaked by the Korean media. According to ETNews, the G Pro 2’s hardware will include a Snapdragon 800 processor, 3 GB of RAM, and LTE-A connectivity (made possible by the S800 CPU), and it will run on Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box. ETNews mentions the screen as being 6-inches in size – 5.9-inch or 6-inch, it’s clear LG is taking the same stance as Nokia and HTC and making the screen bigger than necessary, instead of taking a leaf out of its home competitor’s books.

The report suggests LG will be putting more focus on the multitasking abilities of the device, to take advantage of the 3 GB of RAM. Of course, one area in which LG does take inspiration from Samsung is that of add-on software features, so it’s possible the increase in RAM will be offset by more bloat than we’ve seen on LG’s current software. Either way, it’s just a month before we find out whether the G Pro 2 is a smartphone that’s worth putting your money on, though I’m pretty certain it will do nothing to take the Galaxy Note 3’s place as the best choice in Android phablets.
