When LG announced the G2, they managed to start shipping it just a few weeks later, which is something that should be applauded. Far too many companies announce things and then take half a year to bring said things to market. But here’s where things get funny. The G Pad 8.3, unveiled on the last day of August, is only now hitting the market. And by “the market”, I mean Korea, where it can be purchased for 550,000 won; that’s $515. What about the rest of the world? LG says they hope to have the G Pad in 30 country by the end of 2013.

With all this new information, let’s make some semi-informed conclusions. First, LG dropped the ball on availability. That’s just obvious at this point. Not only is the Nexus 7 shipping in multiple countries at this point, but the high-end LTE variant is also available. Second, that price is ridiculous. Now I fully understand that it’s not going to launch in America at $499, but even if it’s $399, that’s still too much. I don’t care how well built it is, the Nexus 7 is $229 and has received stellar reviews.

Can anything with the Nexus 7? Yes. Amazon’s new 7 inch HDX has the same $229 price tag. And there are also things like the ASUS MeMoPad 7 HD, which is just the 2012 Nexus 7, but for $150.

Spend $300 or above and you may as well just get an iPad.
