Initially unveiled by LG at the beginning of May this year, the manufacturer has gone relatively quiet on its trio of new tablets ever since. That changes today, though, as the company is reportedly kicking off the largest model in the G Pad family’s global rollout this month, where it will start its trek in the United States.
The G Pad lineup features three different variants: a 7-, 8- and 10.1-inch model, all of which bear similar specifications, with the main differentiator being the display size. As far as features go, on the 10.1-inch model you’ll find a display with a resolution of 1280×800, with a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor under the hood. It has 16GB of built-in storage, 1GB of RAM, and the battery measures in at 8,000mAh.
The G Pad 10.1 is beginning its global rollout in the United States at the beginning of July, and should follow into other markets in the coming weeks. It’s reported, via AndroidAuthority, that it will end up in Europe, Latin America and Asia by the end of July.
As you can imagine, LG has plenty of features tucked into the G Pad 10.1 that they’re hoping will make it stand out against the competition. The main proprietary app, though, is their QPair, which will allow you to pair an Android-based smartphone to the tablet. Once you’ve done that, you’ll be able to respond to text messages and even answer phone calls right from the tablet. You’ll also get access to LG’s Knock Code, which lets you set up a personal security layer on the device with a series of knocks on the display.
If you’re a fan of selfies (which apparently some companies really are), the G Pad 10.1 has an easy way for you to snap a photo of yourself in the moment. With their Gesture Shot for Selfies feature, you can clench your hand into a fist within the front-facing camera’s view, and the device will start a 3-second countdown to take a photo.
As of the time of this writing, LG has not revealed any information regarding specific pricing, but that should change soon. Are you interested in the large tablet?
