Last summer, before LG unveiled the G2, the company published several press releases that left me and the rest of the internet scratching our heads. The company said their next phone would have a Snapdragon 800, they said it would have a 5.2 inch 1080p screen, they said it would have ringtones recorded by Vienna Boys’ Choir, and they even shared photos of the G2’s accessories. Why publish so much information about a phone before actually unveiling the device? I don’t know.

Which brings me to the G Pro 2. LG has just published a press release saying it will be unveiled next month. Period. No photos, no specs, just a product name: “G Pro 2”. For those who don’t remember the first G Pro, it had a Snapdragon 600, 5.5 inch 1080p screen, stylus, and 2 GB of RAM. The latest rumors say the G Pro 2 will have a 6.0 inch 2K screen, Snapdragon 800, and 3 GB of RAM.

Is the G Pro meant to go up against the Galaxy S5? All signs point to yes. Remember, the LG G2 is still less than six months old. Releasing a successor to it at Mobile World Congress would leave a bad taste in people’s mouths. And besides, when the LG G3 does come out, it’ll probably have that new Snapdragon 805, 4 GB of RAM, and a more pocketable display.

What I want to know is has LG done anything to their software? Because the G2, while fast and solidly built, just left a bad taste in my mouth. LG’s Android skin, believe it or not, makes TouchWiz look beautiful.
