Lenovo has not particularly done a good job in updating its handsets with VoLTE support for Reliance Jio. Out of the plethora of handsets that the company has launched over the last couple of years, only a handful of them like the Vibe K5 Note support Jio’s VoLTE network and even that was added with a software update a few months after the carrier’s launch.
This led Lenovo to receive a lot of criticism from owners of its existing handsets. Learning from its mistakes, Lenovo has rightfully ensured that its latest handsets, the Lenovo K6 Power, K6 Note and the P2, all have full support for Reliance Jio’s 4G network out of the box including VoLTE. This means that you can pop in a Jio SIM on any of the three phones as soon as you buy them and start browsing the net or make calls without having to install any apps or using any other workaround. It is nice to see that Lenovo has finally gotten around to adding VoLTE support on its devices right out of the box. However, the company still needs to roll out software updates for its existing devices to add VoLTE support to them. The company has so far only rolled out updates for selected Vibe K5 and Vibe K4 series of devices, with no word on when other devices will get a similar update.
For now, below mentioned devices are the only one from Lenovo that fully support Reliance Jio’s 4G and VoLTE network:
- Lenovo Phab 2 Plus
- Lenovo Z2 Plus
- Lenovo Vibe Shot
- Lenovo A2020
- Lenovo A6000
- Lenovo A6600 Plus
- Lenovo A7700
- Lenovo Vibe K5 Note
- Lenovo P2
- Lenovo K6 Note
- Lenovo K6 Power
- Lenovo Vibe K4 Note
- Lenovo Vibe K5 Note
- Lenovo Phab 2 Pro
Other popular Lenovo handsets like the K3 Note, A7000/Turbo, Vibe X3 Lite, A6000/Plus, Vibe P1m, Vibe S1, and Vibe K5 Plus only support Jio’s 4G LTE network. There is no official word from Lenovo on whether these handsets will be updated to add support for VoLTE or not. Considering that you cannot make voice calls on Jio’s network natively on a phone that does not support VoLTE, this is a huge bummer.
If you have not already, buy a Xiaomi or Samsung handset instead of Lenovo since majority of devices from the other two OEMs have full support for Reliance Jio’s network.
