Xiaomi announced that they will be recruiting beta testers for MIUI based on Android Q Release. The company is going to roll out the update for 400 beta testers and XDA Developers have managed to get their hands on the upcoming MIUI build. The MIUI 10 build is running on Xiaomi Mi 9 and is based on Android Q.
As expected the Android Q based MIUI 10 is not much different from the regular MIUI 10. It seems like Xiaomi is reserving new features like ultra power saving mode and new icons for the MIUI 11. Since it is a Chinese ROM, there are no preinstalled Google app and services. List of preinstalled apps includes Mi Store, Mi AI and an App Store that features Chinese apps.
Many of the Android Q features like 3D Air Gestures, app drawer and tasks in the MIUI Notes app are missing. However, the build comes with Screen Time Option which is pretty much similar to Google’s Digital Well Being app. Also present is a new launcher with Search Bar at the bottom. The fonts on the widgets are different than before. Check out the below video to get a better sense of the new launcher on MIUI.
New theme options include the ability to set a custom icon shape, accent colors and fonts. Users can also create group notification and MIUI will group important and unimportant notifications separately. As expected, the MIUI is riddled with bugs like occasionally camera crashes, random reboots and other Android Q options that are missing. In all likelihood, Xiaomi will first ensure that the Android Q based MIUI will become stable and then introduce other features.
