2018 has just started and Motorola’s entire smartphone lineup for the year seems to have leaked. Thanks to the folks over at Droid-life, we get to have our first look at the Moto X5, Moto G6, Moto G6 Plus, and the Moto G6 Play along with some details about their specs.
First, let’s talk about the Moto X5. The handset will sport a new 18:9 5.99-inch FHD+ display at the front with minimal top and bottom bezels. More interestingly though, the leaked image points to Motorola adopting a notch-like design for the display similar to the iPhone X. It is unclear how Android will handle notifications for the notch display but its an interesting move for sure.
Motorola was also the first OEM to ditch the headphone jack from its flagship devices after it was confirmed that Apple was going to remove the 3.5mm jack from the iPhone 7. It is unclear if the phone will come with an in-display fingerprint scanner, a one located a the rear, or skip it altogether in favor of face unlock.
The render also points to Motorola adopting a gesture-based approach for the navigation keys instead of showing a navigation bar at the bottom of the display. However, it is likely that the company will provide users with the option to switch back to the navigation bar.
The handset will also come with a dual-camera setup at the front and rear. We have already seen Motorola debut phones with a dual-camera setup at the rear, but the Moto X5 will be the company’s first phone to feature a dual-camera setup at the front as well. Motorola will also debut Moto XP’s based on Smart AI, though it is unclear what features it will offer.
The Moto G6 family has also been leaked which Motorola is expected to make official at MWC next month. Motorola will be moving its Moto G6 family, which comprises of the Moto G6, Moto G6 Plus, and the Moto G6 Play, to a design language similar to that of the Moto X4 from last year. This means that the rear of the devices will feature 3D glass while the front will see Moto make the switch to an 18:9 aspect ratio display. The fingerprint scanner will continue to remain at the bottom front bezel of the device.
As for specs, the Moto G6 will sport a Snapdragon 450 chip, a 5.7-inch FHD+ 18:9 display, 3000mAh battery, a dual camera (12MP + 5MP) setup at the rear, and a 16MP selfie shooter. The Moto G6 Plus will sport a bigger 5.93-inch FHD+ display, a slightly improved dual-camera setup at the rear, and a bigger 3200mAh battery. As for the Moto G6 Play, it will sport a Full HD display and a gigantic 4,000mAh battery.
