OnePlus 5 OxygenOS Face Unlocl

As promised, OnePlus has added Face Unlock feature to the OnePlus 5 with the latest OxygenOS beta build for the handset. OnePlus’ CEO Carl Pei had confirmed a couple of weeks ago that they would be bringing Face Unlock to the OnePlus 5 with a future software update.

The most notable change in the latest open beta of OxygenOS for the OnePlus 5 is the introduction of Face Unlock. Other changes are relatively mundane and include fixes and improvements for 5GHz Wi-Fi connectivity, general bug fixes, and the December security patch.

The introduction of Face Unlock feature should make OnePlus 5 owners quite happy especially if its performance is anything like we have seen on the OnePlus 5T. While not as secure as Face ID on the iPhone X, Face Unlock on the OnePlus 5T is blazing fast and even works well in low-light scenarios. Since this is an open beta of OxygenOS, you will not get the update on your OnePlus 5 via an OTA. Instead, you will have to manually download and flash the ROM on your device. Installing the open beta will not wipe the data stored on your device and the whole process is pretty easy if you follow the instructions properly.

Given OnePlus’ previous track record, the Face Unlock feature can take up to a month or more to make its way to the stable build of OxygenOS for the OnePlus 5. So, if you cannot wait until then, you should ideally look into jumping on the open beta build of OxygenOS for the OnePlus 5.
