Galaxy S8 vs S8

KGI Securities analyst King-Chi Kuo in his latest investor note has shared his predictions for the Samsung’s upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S8. Like the leaks have made it clear, Kuo says that Samsung will be launching two variants of the Galaxy S8: one with a 5.8-inch display and another one with a 6.2-inch display.

Both handsets will feature a Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2960 x 2400 and feature rounded corners. The smaller Galaxy S8 will sport a 3000mAh battery, while the Galaxy S8+ will feature a 3500mAh battery.

Despite Samsung expecting the Galaxy S8+ to be more popular than its smaller sibling, Kuo says that the shipment of the two models will be split between 60:40. He further adds that the Galaxy S8 variants sold in the United States, Japan, and China will feature a Snapdragon 835 chipset, while the rest of the world will get the Exynos 8895 powered variant. The handsets will also come with 4GB RAM, but the Chinese and Korean variant will feature 6GB DRAM since consumers in these market are more sensitive to such specs. He also confirms the rest of the specs of the phone — 8MP front camera, 12MP rear shooter, iris scanner, heart rate scanner, no home button etc., though these are things that we have already heard and seen in the various leaked photos of the device.

The analyst says that Samsung will be launching the Galaxy S8 in eight colors: gold, silver, black, matte black, blue, orchid, and pink. He expects Samsung to launch the phone on April 21st, contrary to the rumors of its April 28 launch.

While Samsung is positive about the Galaxy S8 sales, Kuo says the handset will sell around 45 million units in 2017, which is lower than the 52 million units of the Galaxy S7/edge that Samsung shipped last year. The reasoning behind this is that the Galaxy S7 was Samsung’s only flagship of 2016 thanks to the Note 7 fiasco.
