At the tail-end of December, Kodak, along with the Bullitt Group, officially announced plans to launch brand new Android-powered devices beginning in 2015.
And now, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, Kodak has officially made it even more official with the unveiling of the first smartphone from the partnership, called the IM5. As expected (and teased), the IM5 has a big focus on photography, with the 13-megapixel camera on the back that Kodak has paired with “unique image management software.” Basically, after taking the shots, Kodak says that editing photos on the IM5 will be easier than ever before, and then they can be shared via social media or printed via a compatible app and printer.
“This is a phone for consumers who appreciate the value and heritage of the Kodak brand,” said Oliver Schulte, CEO of Bullitt Mobile. “It looks great, is easy to use, and offers real value for money.“
As far as other specifications go, the IM5 features a 5-inch display with a resolution of 1920×1080, an octa-core processor under the hood clocked at 1.7GHz, 8GB of built-in storage with a microSD card slot, 1GB of RAM and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It will be running Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, but Kodak and the Bullitt Group say that it will be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop at some point down the road.
As far as a launch date goes, the IM5 from Kodak is planned for a late Q1 in Europe, while a global rollout is planned at some point in the future. Pricing has not been revealed just yet.
