Celebrity endorsement are apparently still a thing. According to Pocketnow, Jay-Z has teamed up with Samsung to give away one million copies of his new album: “Magna Carta Holy Grail”. In order to get the album, you’ll need to own either a GS3, GS4, or Note II. On June 24th, an application will appear on the Google Play Store that will be limited to one million downloads. Said downloads are the album.

If you’re lucky enough to score the download, will you be able to share the music files with your friend? Probably, though there will be some DRM to get in your way. And hey, let’s be frank, those of you who aren’t subscribed to a music service like Spotify or Google Play All Access are probably heavily addicted to torrents or private download sites.

I’m having a hard time understand why this endorsement was done. It’s like when Microsoft pays celebrities to say they use Windows Phone, and then said celebrities use their iPhones to tweet how much they love “Live Tiles” or the “People Hub”. Does Jay-Z use Samsung products in his ordinary life? Probably, I’m just not so convinced that people seeing him use a Note 8.0 will want to buy a Note 8.0.

See the difference?
