A local customer lucked out on the greatest deal of his life, scoring an Intel Alder Lake desktop processor for just $75 on a Walmart clearance sale.
The lucky buyer was Reddit user dekugon22 who claimed that the Intel Core i7-12700 was up for grabs with a whopping 133% markdown from its original price of $379.
Launched in November 2021, the Intel Core i7-12700K was part of the Core i7 lineup, which used the Alder Lake-S architecture with Socket 1700. It was developed with Intel Hyper-Threading technology, which doubled its thread count to a total of 20. It also has 12 cores, eight for performance and the rest for efficiency.
The processor also has 25 MB of L3 cache and operates at 3.6 GHz by default, which can be boosted up to 5 GHz depending on the workload. Moreover, unlike other CPU lines, it can perform reliably without frequent crashes, errors, or other troublesome instability issues. This makes it perfect for users who rely on PCs for gaming, content creation, and professional applications.
Considering these, the Redditor made the right call to purchase the Intel Core i7-12700K for $75 despite its old age. This kind of deal does not come frequently as well, especially on online platforms where an item like this would face huge competition.
Besides their lucky purchase, the buyer also said several other Intel SKUs were available at discounted prices on the Walmart clearance sale. Some were unidentified variants of the Core i9 that sold for $175 each.
While the local Walmart store did not explain the reason for the clearance sale, retailers often hold these promos to free up some space in inventory for new releases. The mentioned store might have been preparing for Intel’s Arrow Lake-S desktop CPUs, which will roll out in October 2024.
