MIUI 7

Yesterday, Xiaomi released the first beta of MIUI 7 for a bunch of its devices that are sold in India. The company had unveiled the latest version of its skin at an event in India last week

MIUI 7 comes with a number of new features and enhancements, including performance improvements of up to 30 percent, a 10 percent improvement in battery life, and more. While Xiaomi did mention that it would be releasing a beta build of MIUI 7 on August 24, it has not revealed when it will roll out the final update to all Xiaomi device users out there.

If you cannot wait for the final build of MIUI 7 to land though, you can always install the beta build on your handset. Follow the steps below to know how.

P.S: Installing the beta build of MIUI 7 will not touch the data on your device in anyway, but it is still recommended that you create a backup before proceeding with the steps below.

Step 1: Download the beta build of MIUI 7 ROM from here. For now, the beta builds are only available for the following devices from Xiaomi:

  • Mi 3
  • Mi 4
  • Mi 4i
  • Redmi 1s
  • Redmi 2
  • Note 3G
  • Note 4G

Make sure to download the Recovery version of the ROM and then transfer it to the internal storage of your Xiaomi handset.

Step 2: On your Xiaomi device, open the ‘Updater’ app that is present inside the ‘Tools’ folder. Tap the 3-dot menu overflow button located on the top right corner of the display and select the ‘Choose update package’ option.

Step 3: Now navigate and select the MIUI 7 ROM zip file that you had transferred to your device in Step 1. The installation process will then start and will easily last for up to 3-4 minutes.

Step 4: Once the progress bar reaches 100 percent, a ‘Reboot now’ button will appear on the screen. Tap on it so that the changes in the system files can be applied by the OS. Once your device boots back, you will be all set to enjoy MIUI 7 on it.

Xiaomi will be releasing weekly updates to beta builds of MIUI 7 to fix all bugs that will be reported by testers. If you come across any bug or other issues on MIUI 7 on your device, make sure to let Xiaomi know by dropping in your feedback on the MIUI forums.
