Huawei today announced its newest flagship at an event in London — the P8. The handset comes with a 5.2-inch HD display and an industry leading 78.3 percent body-to-screen ratio.

Huawei has dropped its ‘Ascend’ naming scheme from its 6.4mm thin P8. The handset comes with a metal unibody design that takes 800+ minutes to craft, and a flat design, unlike the Galaxy S6 and iPhone 6.

Under the hood, the smartphone comes with Huawei’s own Kirin 930 chipset, which consists of an octa-core CPU clocked at 2GHz, 3GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and a 2680mAh sealed battery.

The P8 features a 13MP camera with an industry leading OIS that can compensate for shakes by up to 1.6 degrees. The camera sensor uses 4-color (RGBW) pixels to click better pictures than the traditional 3-pixel camera sensor found in most devices. The 8MP front-facing camera is aided by three different selfie modes to help P8 users take better shots.

In addition to the above, the P8 uses the company’s new Signal+ technology allowing it to quickly switch between the two antennas inside the handset to ensure the best network connectivity and data speeds.

The Huawei Ascend P8 will be available in Mystic Champagne, Gold, Titanium Grey and Carbon Black when it goes on sale later this year for €499. The company will also launch a bunch of accessories with the handset. The handset runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop with Huawei Emotion UI 3.1 on top of it.

Huawei also launched the P8max at the event, which is a bigger variant of the P8 with a 6.8-inch screen. The bigger screen also allows Huawei to include a beefy 4360mAh battery on the handset that is enough to power the handset through 15 hours of video playback. Other specs of the handset remain the same as the P8.
