In November 21, Huawei finally got around to confirming that Android 5.0 Lollipop would be headed to the Ascend Mate 2. While no final date was provided, the manufacturer did say it would land sometime in the first half of 2015.

Now, the company has come forward to confirm that those plans are still in motion, and that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Ascend Mate 2 is still on track. Along with the newest version of the mobile platform, Huawei again confirmed the Ascend Mate 2 will also receive the company’s proprietary EMUI 3.x user interface. The update will be delivered over the air when it does finally arrive.

Huawei is also planning a limited beta test of the software at some point in the near future, before the public launch, and says that it will offer more information on that sometime soon.

The plan to upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop is quite a departure from last October, when Huawei said that the Ascend Mate 2 wouldn’t even be upgraded to Android 4.4. So, while the wait is long, for owners of the smartphone, it is probably more than worth it.
