Huawei has already told the world it’s working on a foldable phone. And now we have our first look at the upcoming device.
Thanks to a photograph taken of a banner showcasing the handset, we not only know what it looks like, but also the name. The handset will be called the “Huawei Mate X”, and it looks like Huawei made some decisions in design to remove the need for a notch altogether. The image was shared on Twitter by user “@Gimme2pm”, and it shows a device that doesn’t fold inwards, but rather outwards. That would be the opposite design of Samsung’s recently unveiled Galaxy Fold.
This design philosophy means that the Mate X will only need one display in total, as the larger screen will work as the outer display when the phone is folded closed. It looks like Huawei put the majority of the features, including the cameras, in a dedicated portion on the side. Multiple cameras, along with the Huawei brand, can be seen on that side.
This is just a banner, so this is all we have to go on. It’s not much, but it’s certainly a start. Huawei is building something pretty interesting, so it will come down to price and how the software works in the real world.
