It feels like ancient times when a device with a six-inch display was considered a tablet, but here we are in 2018 and Huawei is ready to continue to buck trends.

Following hot on the heels of the company debuting the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro, both of which offer displays that measure in at over six inches, the company has also unveiled the Mate 20 X. This is a device that could be considered a tablet, thanks to the 7.2-inch display, but Huawei is comfortable calling it a phablet — something the Galaxy Note series helped bring to the forefront of the market with much smaller devices years ago.

As far as specs are concerned, the Mate 20 X is a beast. That 7.2-inch display is an OLED panel with a resolution of 2244×1080 and supports 16.7 million colors. Under the hood Huawei is offering its proprietary Kirin 980 processor, 6GB of RAM, and 182GB of built-in storage. There is a USB-C port for charging and a 3.5mm headphone jack for good measure.

The Mate 20 X is running Android 9 Pie out of the box under Huawei’s EMUI skin. The battery measures in at 5000mAh, and there is a 24-megapixel camera on the front with an f/2.0 aperture. Meanwhile, around back, there is Huawei’s three camera setup, anchored with the 40-megapixel wide-angle lens with an f/1.8 aperture. The secondary camera is a 20MP ultra-wide-angle lens with an f/2.2 aperture. And finally the third camera is an 8MP telephoto lens with an f/2.4 aperture.

Huawei is including plenty of AI features, and the Mate 20 X also supports stylus accessories. It comes in Phantom Silver and Midnight Blue, and it goes on sale on October 26. It retails for €899.
