In October of this year, Huawei confirmed that the Ascend Mate2 would not be getting updated to Android 4.4 KitKat, or updated at all.
The tune has changed a great deal, though, as the company has officially announced on its blog that the Ascend Mate2, which was launched in the United States with 4G LTE capabilities in June, will be updated after all. And while the many would have guessed the update would be to Android 4.4, instead Huawei has decided to skip KitKat altogether and opt-in for Android 5.0 Lollipop instead.
The blog post is brief on details, unfortunately, and while a general time table is given, sometime in the “first half of next year,” no other details were provided at the time of this writing.
“Huawei Device is pleased to announce that Android Lollipop will be available for the Ascend Mate2 in the first half of next year. In light of your feedback, we have reassessed our upgrade strategy. We take our customers’ feedback seriously and want to ensure they have the best experience possible with the Mate2. The Mate2 upgrade will go from the current JellyBean directly to Lollipop.“
Certainly good news for Ascend Mate2 owners. Are you looking forward to this update next year?
