HTC today announced its new One M8s smartphone, a slightly different and more affordable version of last year’s flagship One M8, which is on its way to Europe.

The One M8s looks exactly the same as the original One M8, and boasts the same 5-inch 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, and Android 5.0 software with Sense 6. But other key internals have been swapped, and in some cases, they make this a better device.

Gone is the quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor in favor of the new, octa-core Snapdragon 615, and in comes a new 13-megapixel rear-facing Duo Camera that replaces HTC’s controversial 4-megapixel UltraPixel sensor.

The One M8s also boasts 16GB of internal storage as standard, a microSD card slot, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 2,840mAh battery. HTC’s trademark BoomSound speakers also remain on the front of the device.

The One M8s delivers almost exactly the same experience as the original One M8, but thanks to that new camera, it may now be a good option for those who were put off by last year’s UltraPixel sensor.

It’s certainly a cheaper alternative to the One M9, and although it doesn’t have the same Sense 7 user interface just yet, it should get it at some point.

The One M8s will make its debut in the U.K. soon, priced at £379.99 (approx. $563) SIM-free.
