Ever since HTC released the One M7 last year, the company has greatly stepped up its game and has been quick to deliver Android updates to its flagship devices as soon as possible.
Today, as a part of its HTC Advantage commitment, the company pledged that it would update “all of our HTC One M8 and One M7 smartphones” to Android L within 90 days of receiving the final software from Google.
Google is yet to provide OEMs with the official Android L software, without which HTC cannot start working on the release firmware. Android L is scheduled to arrive later this year in late-Q3 or early-Q4, so HTC One M7 and M8 users should expect the update to land on their handsets by the end of this year.
The company would be updating their software update page as and when they have something new to share.
Last year, HTC managed to update certain units of the One M7 to KitKat within 90 days of the OS being released from Google. So, it is certainly possible that the company manages to fulfill its promise once again. For once, it is nice to see an Android OEM already announcing a deadline about when its flagship handset users should expect the OS update to land on their device, even before Google actually released the update.
