Today, HTC officially announced a pair of new smartphones that will add to the long-running Desire lineup.

HTC lifted the curtain on the Desire 12 and the Desire 12+. Both of the devices share the same design cues, with minimized bezels and 18:9 aspect ratios, but, as is par for the course with these types of launches, the specs on each are where the key differences come into play.

The Desire 12+ is the flagship of early 2018 for the Desire family. It has a 6-inch display with the aforementioned aspect ratio, and a resolution of 1440×720. Under the hood there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of built-in storage. It is also equipped with a pair of SIM card slots, as well as a microSD card slot for expandable storage. The battery measures in at 2965mAh, it has a USB-C port, a headphone jack, and it’s running Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

There are two cameras on the back: The first being a 13-megapixel shooter, and the second being a 2MP camera. Around front, there is an 8MP front-facing camera with an LED flash.

Meanwhile, the Desire 12 has a 5.5-inch 720p HD display, will have a MediaTek processor, and come in variants of either 2GB/16GB or 3GB/32GB options. There is a single 13MP camera on the back with an HDR mode and an aperture of f/2.2, and a 5MP front-facing camera on the other side. It, too, has dual SIM slots, a microSD card slot for expandable storage, a USB-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Both of the new phones feature HTC’s “liquid surface” color options, which certainly make them stand out. Unfortunately, HTC didn’t go into any details as to when these devices will be available, or how much they will cost, or even where they will launch. We’ll have to wait a bit longer to get that information.
