Late last month, HTC unveiled the J Butterfly for KDDI in Japan. Today, it has announced the same handset with a different name — the Butterfly 2 — for other South Asian markets like India, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
The Butterfly 2 is the exact same handset as the J Butterfly barring a few minor differences. It sports the same plastic unibody design as the latter and carries a dust and water proof rating of IPX7 and IP5X, respectively.
“HTC Butterfly 2 follows HTC’s iconic design and globally acclaimed user experience,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC. “Its elegant appearance and fantastic performance will certainly provide consumers with the best experience ever.”
The full specs of the Butterfly 2 are as follows:
- 5-inch 1080p display
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz
- Adreno 330 GPU
- 2GB RAM
- 16/32GB internal storage
- microSD card slot
- Front-facing BoomSound speakers with JBL LiveStage and Sense Voice
- Duo camera: Primary 13MP F/2.0 camera, Secondary 2MP Depth Camera
- Dual-LED two-tone flash
- Front-facing 5MP BSI camera
- 2700mAh non-removable battery
- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microUSB 2.0, MHL, NFC, 4G LTE
- IPX5/7 and IP5X rating
Interestingly, even though the Butterfly 2 comes with an IP57 rating, the microUSB port of the device is free from the usual flap rubbish that OEMs like Sony and Samsung use on their devices to achieve a similar rating.
On the software side, the Butterfly 2 comes with all the goodies that we have already seen on the One M8 including Motion Launch gestures, Sense 6.0, the Duo camera effects and more.
HTC will start selling the Butterfly 2 in its home market, Taiwan, from September 2. The handset will also be making its way to India, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong sometime next month.
