HTC has started rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo update for its flagship handset, the U11. The company has started rolling out the update in its home market Taiwan first with a wider international rollout scheduled over the coming weeks.

Its surprising to see HTC drop the Oreo update for the U11 so quickly. The company does have a track record of updating its flagship Android devices to the latest version of Android in record time so this was not completely unexpected from the company. The company had even promised to roll out the Oreo update for the U11 in mid-Q4 so it is sticking to its word here. Now that the update is rolling out, an official announcement from the company about it should also go live sometime soon.

The update clocks in at 1.33GB and brings all major Oreo-y goodness to the U11 including Picture-in-Picture mode, Notification Channels and Dots, and more. In addition, the update also enables VoWi-Fi (Voice over Wi-Fi) for Chunghwa Telecom subscribers in Taiwan and contains the November security patch. There are no major graphical changes to Sense, though HTC has tweaked some things around.

If you own a carrier branded U11, the update will likely take another month or two to show up on your device. The international rollout of the Oreo update for the U11 should also commence within the next couple of weeks.

If you have received the Oreo update on your U11, let us know in the comments section below as to how you are liking the update so far.
