Nexus-5X-back

With Q3 of the year fast approaching, the anticipation and hype regarding the next HTC-built Nexus have slowly started building up. While we do know that HTC is building two new Nexus handsets for Google this year and their codename has already leaked, other specs and information of the devices remain largely unknown.

Changing that, the folks over at Android Police today have leaked the specs of the smaller of the two Nexus that HTC is building. Dubbed “Sailfish”, the handset will sport a 5-inch 1080p display. It will be powered by a quad-core 64-bit chipset clocked at 2GHz, which likely means we are looking at a lower clocked Snapdragon 820 here. It will also sport 32GB of internal storage, 4GB RAM, a USB Type-C port, and a 2770mAh battery.

From the specs, it is evident that Sailfish will be replacing the Nexus 5X is Google’s lineup. Interestingly, the handset will feature a bottom-firing speaker, unlike the 5X that had a front-facing mono speaker. And thankfully, despite coming with a USB Type-C port, Sailfish will also come with a 3.5mm audio jack.

The rear of the phone will feature a 12MP shooter that should be similar to the setup found on the Nexus 5X, though with improvements in tow, while front of the handset will sport an 8MP shooter. It remains unclear for now if Google and HTC will be offering the smaller 5-inch Nexus in multiple storage variants or not.

What do you think about the specs of the upcoming 5-inch Nexus from HTC?
