A month after its original unveiling, HTC has announced that its bringing the HTC One (E8) to India. The handset sports the same specs as the company’s current flagship — the One M8 — but features a polycarbonate body and a 13MP camera at the rear, instead of an UltraPixel camera, to keep its price down.
Other specs of the handset include a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 5MP shooter in the front, 2600mAh battery, front-facing BoomSound stereo speakers, 16GB of internal storage and a microSD slot. The device comes with dual-SIM functionality and will also feature the Motion Launch gestures found on the M8.
It will also support the nascent 4G LTE network in India from Airtel and Reliance. The handset will hit the retail stores later this month with an MOP of Rs 34, 990 and will be available in a trio of colors including Electric Crimson, Polar White and Misty Gray. For comparison’s sake, the HTC One M8 retails in India for Rs. 46, 000, which makes the One E8 a fair deal cheaper than it.
The company also announced a new mid-range Desire handset — the Desire 616 — aimed to compete with the likes of the Moto G. The handset comes with a 5-inch 720p display, an octa-core MediaTek processor clocked at 1.4GHz, 1GB of RAM, a 2000mAh battery, 4GB of internal storage and an 8MP shooter at the rear. Sadly, the Desire 616 will be running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean — a 1.5 year old version of Android — along with Sense 5.1.
This dual SIM handset will also hit the retail stores towards the end of the month for an MOP of Rs. 16, 900.
