HTC is trying hard to fight back in the competitive mobile market. However, in a bid to survive, the company is looking to expand its product portfolio to beyond smartphones.

In an interview to Financial Times, HTC’s CEO Peter Chou and Chairwoman Cher Wang hinted that the company is planning for tablets and other wearable techs like smart watches for the future.

Peter Chou also revealed that HTC had in the past worked on a smart watch with Microsoft, but eventually pulled the plug on the product in 2008. The company is closely following the wearable technology market since it is a critical segment, but says that it is too immature to be entered into right now.

On its plans for an Android tablet Chairwoman Cher Wang promised that the product would be “nice and disruptive” whenever it hits the market.
