In less than 24 hours from now, HTC will be unveiling its flagship handset for 2015 — the One M9. After coming up with the excellent One M7 in 2013, and following it up with the One M8 in 2014, expectations are high from HTC to come up with another solid handset this year.

Just like the Galaxy S6, the One M9 has leaked quite a few times over the last couple of months. After all, in this leaky world, is it possible that a device does not leak before it is officially unveiling?

Snapdragon 810: HTC has always used Qualcomm’s high-end chipsets on its premium devices, and the One M9 is going to be no different. In a press release sent earlier this month, Qualcomm itself confirmed that its Snapdragon 810 chipset will be used in an upcoming flagship handset from HTC, and even teased the launch of the handset on Twitter earlier this week.

Display: Unlike Samsung and LG, HTC will not go overboard with pixel packed displays, and stick to a Full HD display on the One M9. Various leaks have more or less also confirmed that just like the One M8, HTC will be sticking to a 5-inch display on the One M9.

Bye Bye UltraPixel: HTC introduced its ‘UltraPixel’ sensor with the One M7 in 2013. While the company’s idea behind the technology was correct, its implementation was not. Worse, instead of improving the UltraPixel sensor on the One M8, HTC actually stuck to the same sensor but removed OIS on it, thereby further degrading its performance.

Thankfully, this time around, leaks have basically confirmed that HTC will not be sticking to its UltraPixel sensor on the One M9. Leaks have reported that the One M9 will come with a 20MP sensor from Toshiba, which will hopefully be a significant step up in terms of performance compared to the ‘UltraPixel’ sensor.

The company will, however, be making use of the ‘UltraPixel’ sensor on the One M9 on the front. This should ensure better quality selfies even in low-light, because of the nature of the sensor.

Ambiguous

Design: With just over 24 hours to go for HTC to unveil the One M9, the final design of the handset still remains a mystery. While various leaks have reported that the handset will feature the same design on the front as its predecessor, multiple reports claimed that all the leaked pictures and renders of the One M9 were fake and were intentionally given by HTC to testers to avoid leaks.

Reports claim that the One M9 will come with a new design on the front, which will be similar to the Desire EYE. Most importantly though, HTC will get rid of that dreaded black bar on the bottom of the device, which if true, will be a welcome change.

HTC has always been praised for the design of its handsets, so it makes sense that the Taiwanese OEM is trying its best to prevent the final design of its upcoming flagship from leaking.

However, as things stand now, no one really knows for sure how the One M9 will look. Pretty weird for a leaky, leaky, leaky world, huh?

Sense 7.0: While its anybody’s guess that the One M9 will come with Sense 7.0, it is unclear as to what all new features it will pack. It is also not known if HTC will be revamping the UI from the ground-up to take advantage of Google’s new Material Design guidelines, or just tweak its existing Sense UI to adhere it to them.

Various leaks have already given us a good idea of what to expect from the One M9 in terms of the specs department. However, the final design of the handset still remains a mystery, which will ultimately make or break the decision of buying the One M9 for many.
