HTC One M9 Marshmallow update now rolling out

HTC said yesterday that the One M9, its not-so-successful 2015 flagship, would be getting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update within 24 hours. Users of the device are now reporting that the rollout has begun in earnest with the OTA available for unlocked devices in the US.

HTC is rolling out two updates. The first is a 99.47 MB download that makes the necessary preparations, followed by the actual Android 6.0 update. The latter is a 1.21 GB download, and the build numbers for the two updates are 2.11.617.180 and 3.35.617.12. The update brings Android 6.0 instead of 6.0.1, but the minor upgrade will probably be released in the weeks to come going by HTC’s software update streak this year.

The changelog for the update is as expected. There’s the new Google Now on Tap for instant contextual information from inside any app, Doze for extended battery life during those times the device is sitting idle, and the overhauled permissions system that lets you grant or deny individual permissions to an app. Last but not the least, those using a microSD card will now be able to use it as internal storage.

Received the update yet? If not, head into the Settings -> About -> Software updates menu and start mashing the Check now button.
