We have seen the HTC One M8 Prime leaking out on a number of occasions with the most recent rumor showing a press render of the handset. But Evleaks is now claiming that this smartphone has been canceled by HTC. The reason for this is not known at the moment, but it should put an end to the rumors and leaks regarding the device.
Given HTC’s limited resources, it was always going to be tough for the company to procure QHD displays in required quantities for this smartphone. And given that the One M8 is barely a couple of months old, any talk of another premium device launching soon hardly made sense.
Perhaps we can see the successor to the One Max launching later this year, but don’t expect to see any other noteworthy devices from the Taiwanese manufacturer in 2014.
The company’s plastic clad One M8 Ace was launched yesterday as the One E8 in China. The smartphone features an almost identical specs sheet as the One M8 but sans the Duo Camera and the premium materials.
Personally, I think it’s a little disappointing that there won’t be a One M8 Prime as we were looking forward to how HTC would wrap a QHD display in its critically acclaimed metal unibody enclosure.
