The existence of a mini variant of the HTC One M8 was hinted at last week through a carrier listing, and now a UK carrier has come up with exclusive information on the device’s hardware and release date, claiming to confirm that the HTC One M8 mini is indeed under development.
According to 3G.co.uk, the HTC One M8 mini (let’s hope that’s not the final name of the device) is scheduled to go on sale in May, with reportedly the same premium unibody aluminium design that is getting rave reviews on the new HTC One. The screen has been reduced to 4.5-inches – a resolution wasn’t mentioned, but going by the original One mini, it should at least be 720p.
Another detail revealed by 3G’s source was that the One M8 mini will not have the HTC One M8’s dual camera set up, an expected omission considering the fact that HTC would want to keep manufacturing costs down. It should still be an UltraPixel camera, but don’t expect to be able to refocus any images you take on the device, one of the (somewhat gimmicky) features made possible by the secondary camera on HTC’s latest flagship.
With the HTC One M8 yet to go on sale in most parts of the world, it should be a while before the Taiwanese manufacturer makes the HTC One M8 mini official. But if the insane amount of leaks about the M8 are anything to go by, every detail about the M8 mini will likely be known long before it gets confirmed by its maker.
