Along with a Sense 6.0 variant of the new HTC One (M8), the company also released a Google Play edition and a developer edition of the handset. Hardware wise, the Google Play and the Developer variants are exactly the same as the Sense variant, except for some minor differences in the bands supported by the radio.
Software wise though, the Google Play edition One (M8) runs on stock Android 4.4.2 KitKat with none of the HTC goodies pre-loaded. However, the company has made sure that its Duo Camera (the dual rear cameras) work flawlessly even on stock Android. Below is the full breakdown of the radio WCDMA and LTE bands supported by the GPe One (M8):
- WCDMA: 850, AWS, 1900 and 2100
- LTE: Band 2, 4, 5, 17
The Google Play edition HTC One (M8) will only be available in silver and is already up for pre-order for $699 on Google’s website. The handset will be SIM unlocked and come with an unlockable bootloader as well.
The Developer edition of the One (M8) is exactly the same as the normal retail units with Sense 6.0 on-board, except that it comes with an unlockable bootloader and will be SIM unlocked as well. It can also be pre-ordered from today for $649 directly from HTC’s website and will ship in a few weeks from now.
