HTC was among the first manufacturers to roll out Android 6.0 to its flagships, but as usual, the update first arrived on handsets in the US. Now, Marshmallow is all set to come to the One M8 and One M9 internationally, with HTC UK revealing that the update will start rolling out to the two devices within 48 hours.
HTC UK’s tweet went out around 24 hours ago, so One M8 and One M9 users should be seeing Marshmallow within the next day. This isn’t a direct confirmation that the rollout will take place in other markets as well, but given how quickly HTC moves with software updates once it gets into the groove, both of the company’s flagships should be making the jump to Android 6.0 in the next couple of weeks.
As a refresher, Marshmallow is mostly an under-the-hood upgrade, though a major one at that. It introduces Doze, a battery-saving feature that puts apps and other activities to sleep when a device is unused for long periods of time, brings native support for USB Type-C ports and fingerprint readers, and enables a microSD card to be used as part of the internal storage. On the user-facing front, Google Now on Tap is the major highlight, along with an advanced permissions system for more control for apps.
Great news! We’ll be rolling out the Marshmallow update for the HTC One M8 over the next 48 hours. One M9 to follow shortly.
